I am trying to prove who someone parents were.He died in 1944, he was only in his forties, much too young to be on the ssi. death index. Does anyone know if it was a requirement to fill out a application for social security when it started in 1937.

in answer to your question. all employers and workers had to register with the social security board by Jan 1, 1937.
Social Security cards were issued. :You can read the history of the social security act on there website.

Wasn't it true that many farm workers went under the radar for many years? I have been looking for my great uncle's Social Security number or years without luck. He passed in 1952. I have sent for SS records without any luck. His name was William M Myers born April 14, 1885 in Shawnee Oklahoma and Passd in Spokane Washington 1952. I have looked for years.
