In researching my family line (Hampson) I discover a publication in the Stalybridge Library. “The Friendly Societies of England 1815-1875”, PHJH Godsen, Manchester University 1961.

This book contains a short history of Friendly Societies and includes a print with portraits of 9 of the Chief Shephard’s of the Loyal Order of Ancient Shephards (Ashton Unity)
