Now Sopher's, we've got! There were 19 men of that spelling. The majority were from MA or CT with one England birth and one MD birth thrown in. Three were from NY, had NY service and died in NY, and there was one who lived, died and had service from NJ.

You did not give Christian names for the man you were looking for, so here are the three from NY:
Burtis, born 12/29/1753 in Milan NY
Jessie, born 8/14/1752 in Suffolk County, NY
Timothy, born 1745 in Dutchess county, NY
The NJ guy was Joseph, born 1721.

The MA men had birth years from 1723 to 1759. The CT men had birth years from 1730 to 1742. That lone MD guy was born 1749 and the England birth was in 1746. If any of these sound remotely familiar, let me know and I'll more info.
