David - I am not a Smith, nor is my husband, but we live at the homestead of Adam Smith of West Buffalo Twp, now Limestone Twp, Union County. One thing that is essential to know about the Adam Smiths of Union County is that there were at least four of them - Adam Smith who settled east of White Springs (southwest of Mifflinburg) in 1775 and his son Adam, and Adam Smith the Teamster in the Revolution, who lived on what is now Furnace Road near the intersection of Old School House Road just outside Lewisburg, PA. Adam the Teamster also had a son named Adam, who moved south into what was then part of Union County, but is now Snyder County. If you are descended from one of these Adams, it is really important to try to figure out of which family he is a member. Many online genealogies mix up these two families, one even having Adam born 20 years after his daughter Barbara. I have collected from census records and tax records on file at the Union County Courthouse information on the Adam Smith of White Springs, and would be glad to share with his descendants. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren lived on this farm from 1775 until 1944 - a very long time - and it was not until 1893 that any deed was filed at the courthouse, since the original survey was in error. The land just kept passing from one Smith to another, and as a result, the tax records are extremely confusing and inconclusive as to who owned what portions of the farm, and who was descended from whom.
