Let me send you the William and James Shepard men in a following message. There were 14 Williams'.
What this all means is that at least one woman has joined DAR using these men as their patriot ancestor. For $10 each, you can get one copy of one application paper for each man. To do this, send your check made to Treasurer General NSDAR to Record Copy Department, NSDAR Library, 1776 D Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20006-5303. With your check, send a cover letter stating you want a record copy of Daniel, Silas and Thomas Jr. You should provide at least three generation removed from the soldier toward yourself so taht the paper that most closely matches your lineage can be obtained. You should probably allow 6 weeks for a return answer to be safe. What the application will show is the lineage of that particular person from her back to the soldier and all the documentary proof she had to supply to support that application. There will also be a part where she will name the children of the soldier. I have no way of knowing how many papers have been submitted for each soldier. If you would prefer to call the National Society, you can reach them at 202-628-1776. A genealogist on staff should be able to tell you the number of women who joined on a soldier so that you can determine how much money to send with your request.
Hope all this helps figure things out.
Mary
