Surnames: Witten, Cecil
One of my ancestors...a William Cecil married to Nancy
Witten from VA during the Revolutionary War was
an Indian Spy and Private. When I emailed the information
to the DAR, it came back saying he was not a Patriot.
I was wondering if you knew why?

The title..."Col. John" was just a title. He was actually a private in Clark's Illinois Regiment out of Virginia. His brother, Valentine, also fought for the colonies. There were no other Colonial soldiers in this line. There were several that fought in the War of 1812 but not in the Rev. War. chevyliddle@aol.com
