Re: Info on Daniel McLain, b.1745? Scotland
Hello Deborah; I looked in the NSDAR Patriot Index and did not locate a Daniel McLain. That doesnt mean he didnt fight, it means that no one has joined the NSDAR Membership using his lineage. I also checked under McLean, McLane surname variations.
Do you know when he possibly died? Its possible that his heirs applied for his pension. You will need to conact the National Archives to see if they did. Or go to your local family history center at the LDS church and request pension microfilm. Its also possible that there might be a biography written on one of the remaining children where they settled and they spoke about the death of their parents. Sometime newspapers will write "historical news" pieces about pioneers.
Hope this helps and if we can help you again, please feel free to contact us.

Re: Info on Daniel McLain, b.1745? Scotland
Hello
I just stumbled onto your request for information on Daniel McLain of Wilkes Co. GA. We are trying to find out more about him, too. This is what I know: A Daniel McLayne is listed in Ancestry's "American Prisoners of the Revolutionary War aboard the Prison War Ship Jersey." He is one of 8000 men named on that list. His will can be found in Wilkes Co. records in 1782. His wife Sarah Jane McLean was warned out of Charleston in December 1781. She had a 3 month old daughter and a six year old son when she made her way back to Wilkes County GA with Elizabeth Baker May, wife of Joseph May Sr. Elizabeth died and she married second, Joseph May Sr. they had many more children in Wilkes County before they removed to Mississippi. Hope this helps. We still would like to find out more about Daniel's Revolutionary War record. Sarah Jane is referred to as the widow of Daniel McLain Revolutionary War soldier in the Joseph May Sr. Geni genealogy.
