Hello Judith;
I looked in the NSDAR Patriot Index and did not locate a James Beeman. That doesnt mean he didnt fight, it means that no one has joined the NSDAR Membership using his lineage.
Some suggestions on helping you locate some information: Was there a "History of Wood River or County" written. These usually told about the Am. Rev Patriots that came to the county.
I looked in the 1830 Census and found a James Beyman listed there. Are you in Vermillion County, IL? If so he is listed on page 111.
In the 1820 Census, there is a Beman, James in Apple Creek, Madison Co.,IL. Is this near you?
Another idea is to look at the BLM's GLO Records and that url is
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Default.asp?
Hope this helps and if we can help you again, please feel free to contact us.
Warmly,
Sara
