Col. Gabriel Fowlkes, Jr., NC or VA
My 5g grandfather was Col. Gabriel Fowlkes, Jr. Wife's name was Ursula. I have no birth date, but his daughter Tabitha, my 4g grandmother, was born in 1777. I have conflicting records that she was born either in Orange Co., NC or Amelia Co., VA, so he was probably in one of those 2 counties. Tabitha's husband Gabriel Davie would probably have been too young to serve (believe he was in War of 1812), and his father, also Gabriel Davie (wife Elizabeth Bumpass) was probably too old. Lookup for Rev. War info on Col. Fowlkes would be greatly appreciated. Ray

It could take about 8 weeks to receive the copy. It will contain items such as names, dates, places, services in the Revolution, and sources of proofs.

Ray, On the off chance you still have the same email, I am very interested in your line. I have done extensive research on the Gabriel I line, but yours from Tabitha and Gabriel Davie is a dead end. I particularly would like to know their children's names, dobs, dods, and spouses. thanks, stephenfowlkes@comcast.net

I descend from Gabriel and Tabitha [Fowlkes] Davie/Davey. What would you like to know?

Re: Col. Gabriel Fowlkes, Jr., NC or VA
Best 4th of July Greetings!
One of my contacts said she found a tuition document from Washington & Lee college for Patrick Henry Davie, with Gabriel Davie signing as Parent/Guardian. That Gabriel was husband to Tabitha Fowlkes, but it is unclear whether he was parent or guardian. There was a John Davie who died in 1829, eight years after Patrick was born. All of Patrick's family was in Madison County, TN in 1850 Census, but recorded as P. H. DAVIS. He married his wife, Elizabeth Shields in VA in 1843, after completing W & L college. Patrick was my paternal grandmother's grandfather. The family eventually moved to Shelby County, TN (Memphis). There might be a connection to Winston J. Davie, as he was President of a Memphis bank for several years, and lost both his wife and daughter to disease there, moving back to Christian County, KY later. He became Agriculture Commissioner of KY.
