My Robert Toms/Tombs served in the French and Indian Wars
3rd Reg 8th Co under Capt John Jeffry and Lt. Charles Woodruff in 1756 from Litchfield Co, CT.
He did have a wife Sarah ? - in 1761 when children were baptized in Congregational Church in Old Cannan, CT.
His son, my gr gr gr grandfather - John, served in the Revolutionary War in 1776 - New York Line and I have his Rev War records.
So, this Robert Toombs serving from Virginia is probably not my Robert, due to what seems to be the the family migration
to New York, but at least I have this possibility to research.
