Could your Young(er) have gone by a different first name?
Also, I found a David Coleman under this information:
COLEMAN, DAVID
Ancestor #: A024292
Service:
NEW JERSEY Rank: PRIVATE
Birth:
1762 BLOOMING GROVE ORANGE CO NEW YORK
Death:
1840 MT.HOPE ORANGE CO. NEW YORK
Service Description:
1) CAPTS.HARKER & HELM,COL.FRANCIS BARABER
But this one was born in NJ and died in NY.
If you have found any indication that either gave service to the Colonists either by fighting or donating, or some kind of civil service, such as town clerk or a committee member during the years of 1775-1783, you would be able to establish these men as Patriots.
If you are not a member of DAR and wish to join, we can direct you to a local chapter. There are members in each chapter who might be able to help you find the information you seek, or perhaps another ancestor under whom you would qualify.
This is a free lookup service provided by DAR Volunteers at the DAR message board.
