I have a direct ancestor who moved from New Hampshire to Nova Scotia years before the American Revolution. He was prominent in political activities and was denied his seat in the House Assembly because of his refusal to sign the Oath of Allegiance in 1777. He was engaged in the shipping business and his ship was seized by the British. He reportedly died as the result of foul treatment by a British Officer in 1780.
Would my ancestor's activity be considered by the DAR for approval? I understand that some who did not actively serve, but supported the war effort by signing certain documents are considered as acceptable.
Thank you,
