Please do not give up! Please go to
www.dar.org and click on the genealogy or membership tabs. There is a lot of informaton there on how to gather documentation. In addition, the DAR library catalog is online.
There are genealogy classes available at many adult education facilities that might help you learn where to look and how to obtain documents. In addition, there are many good books on genealogy at libraries.
It is possible to call or write to city or state archives for information. Sometimes they have researchers who will look for documentation for a fee or they can put you in touch with a genealogist. County historical societies also have people who will help. Cemeteries will often send you a copy of any burial records they have.
And consider taking a vacation trip to the areas where your ancestors lived to do research. Many people interested in genealogy do.
Good luck with your research. It takes time, but the rewards are rich.
