Charles Vernier m. Elizabeth (Wood) Vernier. Charles' parents were Theophilus Vernier and Adelaide (Agnes) Vernier. Elizabeth's parents were Jeremiah Wood and Elizabeth (Belshire) Wood. Charles & Elizabeth had 5 children as follows: 1. Charles T. Vernier b. July 12, 1900; d. young. 2. William Joseph Vernier, b. Feb. 15, 1897 3. Sarah E. Vernier b. Apr. 17, 1904 4. Jennie Blanche Vernier b. Dec. 27, 1907 5. baby son or daughter. My mother-in-law Sarah (no. 3) said his name was Johnny; newspaper (1910) said it was a girl no name. Died accidental death and was a baby. No. 1 and No. 5 are buried in the old Holy Trinity Catholic Church cemetery located on Pond Creek. Would like to know how to get records on the burial of No. 1 and No. 5. (birth, baptismal and death records). Your help will be appreciation.

1. As for historical information we may have, we are currently working on a names index for our Bulletins going back to 1975. When this is updated to our site, we'll post a notification here...so please click on "Add Board to Notifications", above, to monitor new posts here.
2. See my new post today for information on obtaining birth, marriage and death records from the County and/or State.

Re: Vernier Family of Scioto County, Ohio
Thank you for answering, Richard. It is too expensive to get a death certificate the way you suggested. I found it would cost over $50.00. I believe there was no recorded birth or death of baby Vernier who died in 1910. His sister said his name was Johnny.
I need to be able to have the address of the Trinity Catholic Church in West Portsmouth to have them check burial records for me. Does anyone have that address? Thank you.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church 2215 Galena Pike West Portsmouth, OH 45663-6210 740-858-4600
I see that we have not published burial records or marker readings for this church. I'll ask around to see if we have them.

Re: Vernier Family of Scioto County, Ohio
Do you have any information on Jeremiah Wood and Elizabeth Belcher's deaths? I am descended through their son Charles. I lose them after the 1900 census.

Re: Vernier Family of Scioto County, Ohio
My name is Sandy and I am related to Jeremiah Wood and Elizabeth Belcher thru their daughter Elizabeth who married Charles Vernier. My information is that Elizabeth Belcher Wood died in February, 1891. Since Jeremiah is not on the 1910 census, I assume he died between 1900 and 1910 but I have not been able to find out when.

Hi Sandy, I thought I had given you all the info I had on Jeremiah Wood and Elizabeth Belshire. If I did not, let me know. I will add a few things here: Courthouse at Scioto Co. OH - WOOD, ELIZABETH d. Feb. 12, 1891 Vol. 2, pg. 217 (Health Dept.) died of consumption; French, OH 57 years 5 months, 6 days. Born Oct. 6, 1834 in East Virginia. Her father was Benjamin Belcher and her mother was Sarah Jones. JEREMIAH WOOD b. 1835 Virginia; d. at age 80 in Mechanicsburg, OH. LAWRENCE WOOD his grandson, son of JOHN WOOD, said that JEREMIAH WOOD lived with his son CHARLIE WOOD at Mechanicsburg, OH. At age 80 Jeremiah ran after a calf after it got out. He came in the kitchen; sat down and died. This would be around 1915.

Hi Helen. I didn't have that info on Jeremiah. I wondered why I couldn't find anything here on his death. I still look occasionally but haven't found much more. I'm getting the bug again tho. BTW good to hear from you again.
