I am researching Roxalana Adams (1883 -1966) a Waltham resident who was employed with the S.S. Pierce Co in Boston for twenty years according to her obituary. She was the daughter of George Henry Adams who worked for the Waltham Watch Factory. Are there employee records to be found?

Thanks very much for any leads....

Hi Courtney,
I am researching family history, and believe that my Great Aunt Lillian - married Robert Pierce Smith - who is somehow related to the S.S. Pierce family....would you know anything about him or them? I believe Robert was born late 1890's or so.
Thank you,
Colleen

Surnames: Freeley
My great uncle Austin Freeley worked for SS Pierce Co. as a driver for at least 25 years (1917-1942) and probably longer. If anyone has any info on him or the drivers in general I would love to hear about it.

Also his brother John Freeley worked for SS Pierce from the 1920s to about 1960. I know it's only a small chance, but would appreciate a reply from anyone who knew him or any relevant info.
Thanks
Mark

Brian and Courtney,

I am also a descendent of Samuel Stillman Pierce and, Courtney, first cousin once removed of your husband. My grandfather was Parkman Dexter Pierce; my mother is your husband's great aunt, Jean Pierce Stetson. She's still alive and lives near me in New Jersey.

As a teenager, I lived with my family in Dedham, MA, and was a good friend of Reva Seybolt's. I probably met you, Brian, since it would have been during the mid 60's that Reva and I were friends. I spent quite a bit of time in their house.

I can shed some light on George Seybolt's connection with the Pierce family, as he dated the eldest Parkman Dexter Pierce daughter, and my namesake, Carolyn, when he first moved to Boston from NYC. He loved to tell my sister and me that he could have been our uncle.

Courtney, you would also probably be interested that your husband's great grandmother, Alice Josephine Coughlan (often misspelled as Coughlin) worked at SSP and that's how she met Parkman.

Brian, I loved your story of working at SSP, and even though I was still a teenager when the family sold the company, I remember conversations about incompetence and lack of interest - the reasons the company went downhill. I also remember the many fine products that Mom would order over the phone, like the roast beef hash, a family favorite, and the booze!

I hope you both see this post.

Sincerely,
Carolyn Pierce Stetson

Anne,

My mother, granddaughter of Wallace Lincoln Pierce by his youngest son, Parkman Dexter Pierce, often talks about making rounds in a horse drawn cart with her uncle who was a doctor. I never knew who she was talking about, but it must have been her great uncle Matthew Vassar Pierce. I would love whatever information you have about him, and as a Vassar College attendee, about the family relationship, if there is one, to the founder of Vassar College.

I stumbled upon a set recently too. But if you are still collecting these, let me know. I think I have more than 6!
