Hi All
The Gaelic Athletic Association, popularly known as the GAA, which caters for all native Irish games was founded in Ireland in 1884. Almost immediately branches of this Assocition were formed in Britain and in the intervening years wherever there was a reasonable sized Irish community a GAA club was formed. Clubs have existed at various times from Aberdeen in the North to Southampton and Plymouth in the south and from Swansea in the west to Ipswich in the east. Now clubs exist in all the Universities throughout Britain.
An effort is currently being made to compile a history of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Britain. It is for that reason that I appeal to readers whose father, grandfater or indeed great grandfather was involved to get in touch with me. Old newspaper cuttings, photographs or dates on medals or postcards would enable me to piece together this unique and dramatic story.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Pat.
