I'm researching John Tierney who was a tailor on High Street Maitland. He arrived in Australia around 1833 and married Catherine Kelly in 1838. I'm descended through their daughter Mary Elizabeth.

I apologise if I've been in touch with you previously Peter and requested this information. I did contact someone a few years ago but the emails with all the information were lost on an old computer.

HI Peter

Are the 1955 floods at Maitland included in your search ?
My Aunt Jean WRIGHT (nee DAVEY) had a dress shop in High St, Maitland at the time of the floods.
I was only 6 at the time but remember going with my father to help move the stock, can't remember which shop it was though.

Hi,
I am reserching my family tree. Apparently my great great grand father Henry Crothers was a tenant in High St Maitland in 1894. Do you have any information on him or his wife Jane.

Hi,
My Great Great Grandfather was William Filmer who was a Seedsman in High Street Maitland for many years.
Have you heard of him? He had 11 children & was very well known in West Maitland.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Lynell Charlton :-)

Hi Peter

Looking for information on either Hannan or New/Newe families. Eliza Ann Hannan my Grt Grandmother was born in High Street Maitland. Father was William New/Newe mother Julia Hannan.

Any info would be greatly appreciated as this guy is a bit of a mystery man. William New/Newe and Julia Hannan were not married.

Regards

Kerry

Hi Peter

2006 is a long time ago but ....

My great grand father was Henry Young - H. A. Young Solicitor. He opened his own practice in 1896. In the notice advertising this in the Maitland Mercury he gives the address as
Opposite Messrs R. Blair & Sons.

I would be interested in any information or a photo of the High Street during this period if you have it.

thanks
Gail

Hi Gail,

Its a life long interest so never too late! I have a postcard view of the street scape in the vicinity of his premises about the 1890s to give you an impression- but not a photo of his actual premises. I can email that to you if you wish and perhaps a note on his death from the MM if you haven't already located that.

cheers, Peter Smith
