Can anyone tell me anything about an inscription on a clock face - C.W. Miller -1742 - Germantown . I am assuming they mean Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania .

There's also a Germantown, New York and a Germantown, Maryland.
You would probably need to research clockmakers for that time period. Try
www.worldcat.org
for relevant books...

Another source if it was made in Pennsylvania: The Library Company of Philadelphia.
A search of an historical directory of that time will confirm whether or not your C.W. MILLER lived in Pennsylvania or elsewhere.
