There was a period of time that Calvin went to the aid of a cousin Alfred Polk in around Lamar, Colorado who worked for the JJ Jones Ranch. Alfred was in jail, waiting for trial when he contacted Calvin in the Texas Panhandle to come help look after his family. Alfred had killed a couple of cowpolks. They spent some time in the Mountains and on the run in the Oklahoma Territory (No Man's Land) before Alfred went in and turned himself in. One of their crew killed a Mexican man for beating on his wife when they dropped down into the Texas Panhandle one night. Quite the story. Fran

My great grandfather was Cal Polk, and my sister has been transcribing a copy of his diary he kept on his travels with Pat Garrett...very interesting, including his phonetic grammar! - D. Ray Polk.

Julius "Peanut(s)" Polk was my grandfather, and I believe he was at least a County Assessor in the Holdenville area. He laughed & joked a lot, and his wife Nora was very sweet. He died around 1960 or so from emphysema at about age 70. - D. Ray Polk, OKC.

Hi Bob - my great grandfather Cal married Anne (Annie) Hampton, and had 3 children. He must have been a character, because his son Julius "Peanut" Polk had quite a sense of humor as well as his son (my dad) Ed Polk. - D. Ray Polk.
