I'm really not sure where to post this. This may not be the right place. I'm trying to decipher a Texas Muster Roll Index Card that states Walter Barbee is in the 2nd Frontier District under Major Erath. I'm totally new to this, so please be patient with me and if this is the wrong place, if you can direct me where to find out.
Most everything is okay, but the first thing written under "Remarks:" says only "R&F 49, 67;" then it goes on about payments and such. I've no idea what R&F means. Another thing, it says he enlisted on 20 Mar 1864 but in the remarks it says, "1 PR dtd.F.6 to Je.1-64" which I'm assuming means a single payroll dated February 6 to June 1, 1864. Or is that From the 6th to the 1st of June 1864? I'm leaning toward the former rather than the latter, even though the latter makes more sense. The writer tends to write the Month followed by a single period without spaces then the date, in which case F.6 looks more like February 6th.
Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what the R&F 49, 67 is and why he would be paid before he enlisted, unless I'm wrong about that second part. Also, what is the difference between a Ranger and a Frontier whatever he is?
