My father - Eddie Sandson was lead trumpeter with Henry Santry's band sometime in the 1920's. They traveled the country and played a lot of concerts and dances. I don't know any details, but I do have a really old photo of the band in front of a theatre which has the bands name on its sign.

Surnames: Grodsky/Gross
laurin, Henry Santrey is a stage name. He was born Henry Grodsky and later changed to Gross.
He is one of 8 sons and was raised in Cincinnati Ohio. One brother was named Bert and I am working with Bert's daughter (Henry's neice) on the family history. I recently came across two pieces of Henry's music on Youtube. "Dream Daddy" and "Tell me you'll forgive me". It is wonderful to listen to these. He apparently wrote a song called "Ellis Island Blues" in 1923. I have NOT been able to find it as of yet. Based on the Youtube pieces it appears that the band was called "Cameo Dance Orchestra". Since we have only just begun our search, I don't have a great deal of information. If you would like to contact me directly...my email is "grandmaquilter6@aol.com"

Hi thanks for replying. My search started 20 years ago with my g/aunt from Australia. My reason for info on Henry Santry was that he discovered her on vaudeville in Australia and convinced her to come to the USA to perform with his soldiers of fortune act. Her name was Estelle Fratus. Her soon to be husband was a the drummer in the band also. There is lots of info of her performances with Henry Santry through ancestry and newspapers during the 1930s. She unfortunately died 1940 at the age of 35 and as time went on no one in the family kept records of her death or burial. So finally 2 yrs ago in Detroit. I don't have much info on henry Santry tho. Tks laurin
