Good Evening All,
Just came across this thread. I was a trumpet player in the Weldonians in the early fifties. My kid brother Colin was a woodwind player and my sister "Teddi" a majorette. I remember playing in the trumpet choir at the annual concert in the Oakland Auditorium and in the Show Band. At that time we practiced marching at a local school every Saturday during the day with a National Guard NCO as a drill instructor and had a concert Saturday night at the school for parents, etc. So when I got to the Marine Corps (no not the Marine Band) officer candidate school I didn't need to be taught to march. :)
I went on musically to have a dance band in high school (until the musicians union shut us down) where I played at various times the trumpet, drums, the bass, piano, and accordian. I also played the organ in church from time to time. In college I played trumpet in the pep band for the USF basketball times when Bill Russell, K.C. Jones and Hal Perry played on the NCAA champion teams. (Got to travel to many cities for championship games.)
Now in retirement, I teach math part time at a local charter school as a volunteer here in Arizona and tutor kids at home. I haven't been involved in music for many years except to substitute teach for the local high school music teacher and band leader. I'd like to join the group you all refer to but I don't do Facebook or other social media for privacy reasons. Maybe you could set up a website?
