Like others tracing ancestors I have a few Stonemasons in my tree and I'm trying to get more information on Stonemasons. I have a few in the Yorkshire area mainly Hull but also Leeds, also a Marblemason.

Generally I'm trying to find out about Master Stonemasons around (1840's-1870's) as I believe they would be entitled to have their own mark. Where would this sort of information be found ?.

Were they apprenticed? or did they learn fromthe father? Are there any records in the parish churches of mason's names who built them? Good luck in your searches.
