Surnames: Strachan, Brobston
I would like to find the same list of Philadelphia journeyman shoemakers: my surname immigrant James Strachan etc sailed into Philadelphia in ca 1803 and his brother John ca 1802. His brother John applied for citizenship in Sept. 1802 in Philadelphia w/ a Robt Brobston, tailor, as his character witness, who was a Philadelphia resident also from Co. Antrim.
In early Randolph Co., Illinois county history book James, who was a farmer, is listed as a shoemaker. So I think he probably had a background in shoemaking either in Pennsylvania, where his children had been born, or before immigration in Ireland.
