The Dorion

The Dorion

I am looking for any information on Harold Dawson (engineer) lost at sea when the ship Dorion sank in the 30's. He would be my grand father. He lived at 97 Morris Street, in Halifax and was married to Vivian Johnston (my grandmother). When the ship sank my father Harold Dawson Jr. was around 18 months old so he never really got to know his father. My father Harold Jr. passed away in 1999 he was 66. We never really discussed the possibility of his father having brothers or sisters he may have had. I'm searching for any extended family members or decendants with the name Dawson.
I'm hoping someone out there might have some information.

If you check the posting under the date 24 Jun 2005 under my name Margaret Robert, I was also looking for information on the Dorion.

A lady had the newspaper clipping which told what happened.
I went to the National Archives in Ottawa and found where the ship was missing and the name of the crew members but that is all. I made a photocopy of this. It gave details of the ship, what it was worth, its weight, etc.

Not sure if you live in the Halifax area but I found this on the internet, they have a meeting this Saturday, March 24, maybe very helpful for you. They would be able to give you ideas as to where to look for more information.

This site may also be helpful, it is a message board for Nova Scotia and is broken down by districts. You could post the same mesage here.
