Nathaniel Ornitz - President of a steel mill in 1930
Am seeking more information on Nathan/Nathaniel Ornitz shown as president of a steel mill in 1930 Pittsburgh Pa Census. Would like to know which steel mill he was president of. Would like to confirm if it was National Alloy Steel Company in Blawnox, PA.
Nathan Ornitz, had a brother named Samuel, who was one of the "Hollywood 10" blacklisted in 1950. Nathan also had a brother, Edward who worked with him in the steel business. I found their father and siblings in the 1900 and 1910 NY Census.
Morris (1863) and Dora (1864) Ornitz had the following children: David (1886), Elias (1889), Samuel (1891) and Nathan (1896). Dora must have died by 1910, because Morris had remarried. Morris and Becky had the following children: Carl (1906), and Helen (1908). Julius Silver is listed as brother-in-law, suggesting that Becky's maiden name was Silver. Another child named Edward (1888) was also shown in 1910 - so it's possible that Elias and Edward are the same child.
Morris came from Grodno, Russian in 1883-84 according to 1920 census records. Dora also came from Russia but Grodno wasn't listed on the 1900 Census where she was found. Their children were all born in NY. They were married in 1886, after Morris and Dora arrived in NY.
If anyone has any additional info on this family - I'd really appreciate it. Thanks sooo much!

Re: Nathaniel Ornitz - President of a steel mill in 1930
Nat Ornitz was was president of National Alloy Steel, a division of the Blaw-Knox Company, and was succeeded in that position by his son, Martin. I recently went to the plant and it is a closed-down hulk. My father, Rees James, was general sales manager and chief engineer of the company for much of the time that Nat Ornitz was president. I am unsure of Nat's relationship to Sam Ornitz of the Hollywood Ten, but I believe that he did have another brother who was a famous Hollywood cinematographer.

Thanks for answering my query -- I do appreciate it. I appreciate being able to confirm the steel company's name.
Does your father, Reese remember Nathaniel? Does he remember any stories about him?

My surname is Dlugach. My family immigrated from Poland. Not sure if there is a connection. We are all still trying to connect the dots.
