Our Dlugatch/Dlugach family imigrated from Grodno circa 1911 to New York. Grodno was part of Poland at one time, but was a part of Russia in the early 1900's. Now it is in Belarus. Grodno is a city and a gubernia/district -- and I'm not sure if we are from the city or a smaller village in the district.
Where in Poland is your family from?

Dear Ms. Douglas,

I picked up on this post and several others mentioning a family connection to the Dlugatch/Dlugach family name from Grodno.
Although it is a little hazy our Dlugatch/Dlugach ancestors also may have come from Grodno and emmigrated to Great Britain where the name was changed to Douglas and then Franks and then back to Douglas after WWII. The family was in the silver business in London and in the textile business in Northhampton. I would be happy to communicate further if you are interested. I have emailed my father (Michael Douglas - but not the actor) in South Africa to see if he has further information.

Sincerely,
Ivor S. Douglas, MD
Englewood, Colorado.

Do you know where in Poland your family immigrated from?
Was it the Grodno area which was at one time part of Poland but is now Belarus? Do you have any dates for reference?

I will be happy to help in any way that I can.

Do you have any dates to reference your Dlugach line?
Dates when they were in England for example? Or in Grodno?

Would you prefer to email directly -- since you provided your email address? I'll also send you an email.

Happy to help in anyway I can.

Sam Ornitz was a brother of Nat Ornitz. Arthur Ornitz the cinematographer was Sam's son, as was DOn Ornitz, a well known photographer.

Nat and Sam also had a brother David, there was a fourth sibling but I do not have the name or gender.

Yes, Nataniel, Samuel and David had a brother Edward Morris Ornitz born 13 March 1889 Manhattan, NY, died 2 Oct 1953 Los Angelos, CA. In 1930 Census, he was shown to be a steel mill manager in Pittsburgh. (In the 1900 Census, he was referred to as Elias, but in the 1910,1920, as Edward and in the 1930 as Edward M and in the Soc Sec Death index as Edward Morris)

If this is any help or if anyone is still reading this thread... My great-grandfather, Marcus, was a Dlugatch from Grodno. He was a textile merchant who moved to St. Petersburg before coming to the US. When he came, the name was changed to Douglas. He had a relative in NYC, a Samuel Douglas(s) who was a doctor, wife Jennie. Don't know if this connects up with anyone else's Dlugatches, but thought I'd throw it in.
