Surnames: DIAMOND, o'shea, cashman
I am hoping to find out any information i can on my father who passed away in 1989. I know he was a NYPD patrolman and later became a detective. I think he was in brooklyn's 81st & 90th precincts...he retired unexpectingly in 1969 with almost 20 years on the force. I believe his partner at one time was john o'shea and his captain was named cashman...any info about my father would be greatly appreciated

I was assigned to the 90 pct. from may of 1969 as a patrolman, till 1982 and from 1982 to 2005 as a detective, and never crossed his path.

Hi...I was in the 81 Pct from 1971-82 and didn't know your father. You should reach out to NYPD headquarters and look for the Historical Records Unit and request your fathers records.

Hi. Thanks to all that responded. This is the first time I saw the replies. Came across it by accident and wantred to thank everyone who commented. In 1949 my father's fly captain was Bob Cashman who was in charge of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation(and for a brief time transferred to 3rd division). The BCI was moved to Police Headquarters at 400 Broome St., Manhattan and were under the detective division. Fifteen out of 100 men were awarded the gold star and became detectives. My father stayed with the Detectives Division until 1967 when they transferred him to the 90th squad in Williamsburgh. On March 25, 1969 my father had called in saying he would be late. He pulled in front of the precinct and shot himself in the head (according to newspaper reports). A rabbi across the street was a witness to the incident but that was only what I had been told by another detective when my father was in Cumberland Hospital. I did contact "F.O.I.L." but alot of the information had been blacked out on his papers. The only thing I know was my father was very unhappy those last two years. Apparently none of the other officers would speak to him because they thought he was sent there as a spy. The change was made under Mayor Lindsay.I remembered stories where they sent older men (my father was 50) climbing buildings to rooftops during the Bedford Stuyvesant riots in the late 60's. One story I remembered was the officers were not allowed to use any force during the riots until someone threw a malatov coctail that landed near the captain or chief. I only found out recently from someone about my father saying he was treated like an internal spy by the other officers.
Many years later I was reading the story of Serpico and had come across a small mention of the 90th precinct where Frank Serpico had been offered a bribe and refused.
My father survived but never spoke about anything regarding those years.
I do remember the name John O'Shea and my father going to his house when I was very young.
