Looking for leads as to where to look for information on a great uncle of mine. I was able to extract bits and pieces from the NY Times about him but have not found him, so to speak.

I don't know when he was born, assuming around 1895. Believe his parents were Malachi and Nora Kane

He was appointed to the NYC police force in 1918. In 1924 he was with the Truck Squad. In 1925, he was promoted to 3rd Grade Detective (the 11th Div? or Riverfront Squad?) In 1926, he was promoted to 2nd Grade and assigned to the Safe and Loft Squad. He was cited for act of Merit (18th Div). in 1833. In 1937, he was transferred to the Morissania Ave. Station in the Bronx. He retired in June 1942 (18th Div, 8th Det. Div).

Also trying to find info on his family as well as when he died . Hoping an obit will lead to other family members... any leads greatly appeciated..

Tks in advance..
Sheilah

Anyone with 20 years on the NYPD qualified for a pension. Those records are stored at One Police Plaza. Beneificiaries are also on record as well as the date of death.

I don't have much information for you but my grandmother's name is Marion Kane and according to my grandad her father was James Kane and he was suppose to be a Police Officer in Manhatten around 1918 . We think she died in child birth and catholic charities tried to take the children they hid out with a Agnes Corcorin guessing on the spelling but they had a family farm in NEWBURG N.Y. Marion possibly had two sisters who lived with them this is information my granddad gave me in 1982 when he was we think 84 at the time he died two years later. She is suppose to be buried in her mother and fathers family plot in the biggest cemetery off Queens Blvd. I have no clue there are just to many cemetery's and I'm assuming it's in Queens. If any of this information sounds familiar i would love to hear from you and open the book on this family.
Thanks

I haven't come across a Marion Kane in my search. I have learned that Ignatius died in 1963 and is buried in Westchester, NY.

I don't have enought info to make a connection...

Good luck...

Did he work out of the Atlantic Avenue station in 1935?

I am asking because a Detective James Kane was in a few articles in the NYTimes and the Brooklyn Daily Eagle

sheila... my father, a first grade detective named Timothy Clune , was a member of the Safe and Loft squad . His partner was named Fred Itchner. Do those names ring a bell?? My father died in 1932 from spinal meningeitis. At the time of his death he was stationed at the 104th pre- cinct. My mother had told me there was a shake up at the Safe and Loft Squad... sommething to do with a fur heist.... and the detectives were reassigned and posted around the city. Don't know much else. Would you have a roster of names of those who were in that outfit when your dad was there? Hoping to hear from you. my email is patohanlon@optonline.net

Is it possible that your father worked with Detectives Timothy Clune and Fred Itchner. Both were members of the safe and loft squad at the same time as your dad?
