Generally speaking I think nursing training was three years, fully residential, in a training/teaching hospital (not all hospitals had schools of nursing), starting as a probationer and ending as State Registered Nurse (SRN). Midwifery was an extra qualification - but why do you not write to the Royal College of Nursing and ask?
