I believe my great-grandfather, William Henry Ballard, to have been killed in a mining accident between 1896 & 1900. All info points to the Red Ash Mine Explosion in March 1900. This would be a fit as I have the family in Glen Jean in 1896 when my grandfather was born. I have found a WH Ballard on an Index of Mining Fatalies but have not found him to be listed in the 46 killed at Red Ash. I wonder if he may have been injured and died later. I have my great-grandmother, Rosa Hawks Ballard, listed as a widow & back in Mercer Co in the 1900 census. Can anyone offer any information from any look-ups etc?
