Do you happen to know which towns they were from in that area? I have several books written by my ancestors (Walter and Stenger surnames) that detail many of the glass and crystal making familes / operations in that area. If you know which place I can look it up and see if there is anything that mentions your families.

I've acquired some information on these families and of course there are many variations in spelling. The Henzey families went to England - didn't they and I think they became furniture makers....or some of them did. Tyzack went to Paris I think - I'll have to check what I have on these families - but in the meantime, please post what you already know about them. I'm sure everyone on the message board would be interested.

My first Henzey ancester was Ananias Hennezel or Henzey who was born in Lorraine in about 1569. He was living at Kirdford in Sussex in 1590 when his daughter Elizabeth was baptized in 1590. His son Joshua Henzey (ca.1600-1660) settled at Amblecote in the parish of Old Swinford, Worcestershire, before 1618, when he married Joan Brettell. He was buried at Old Swinford in 1660. His son Paul Henzey (1627-1693) married Anne Tyzack, daughter of Paul Tyzack (ca.1586-1665) Paul Tyzack's parents were Jean Thisac from Lorraine and Mary Bungar who were married at Kirdford in Sussex in 1585. Paul Henzey and Ann Tyzack had, among other children, a daughter Anne, born in about 1654. Unfortunately Anne's baptism is among the many christenings unrecorded during the Commonwealth period. Her parentage can be established with certainty from her marriage details. Anne Henzey (ca.1654-1708) married Rev Samuel Ward, Rector of Strensham and Hill Croome in Worcestershire and is my distant ancestress.

The details of the Henzeys and Tyzacks are recorded in "From Broad Glass to Cut Crystal" by D.R. Guttery, "Collections for a Genealogy of the Noble Families of Henzey, Tyttery and Tyzack" by H.S. Grazebrook and "Glass, Tools & Tyzacks" by Don Tyzack.

I was wondering about the names of the town in Lorraine, not in England. I have several books that give information about the glass and crystal makers in Alsace-Lorraine and Moselle.
But to do the look ups I would need a town as these books are not indexed.

Sorry Laura, I misunderstood.

The Hennezells (Henzey in England) and the Thisacs (Tyzacks) were from the Darney or Darnell area. The Hennezells were at Houldrichapelle and before that at Hennezel. The Thisacs were at Belrupt and Lichecourt.

By the way do you have any connection with the De Bouzeys who were (I believe) in the Darney area?

I am sorry I do not have data for those locations.
My family were located in many of the glassmaking towns including: Meisenthal, Gotzenbruck, Trois Fountaine, Rosteig, St. Quirin, Montbronn, among others.

I have my gedcom located at www.gencircles.com and at www.geneanet.com

The most prevalant surnames are Walter, Stenger, Greiner, Burgun, Hild/Hilt, Andres, among many others.

3 of my ancestors wrote books about the glassmakers.
One is by George des Chambre Walter, one by Ettienne Stenger, and the third by Antoinne Stenger.

I am a decendent from Tyzack (Peregrine) and Henzey (Peregrine Henzell) who were uncle and nephew, from thereon the Peregrine name followed generations through the Henzell family (relatives through siblings). They were huguenots who escaped from Lorraine Alsace in the 1700's together with the Tytterys and were glass makers. They fled to Worcester and to Newcastle upon Tyne who led the glass industry in the north east for some time.

Tyzack also settled in London as tool makers when the glass industry started to deminish.

Hope this is helpful and if anyone can offer me any further information it would be much appreciated.

Sam

I thought you might like to see this very large map of your ancestors' Glasshouse on the River Tyne. It also shows the last resting place of Peregrine Tyzack
