I am writing the first book from the American point of view about 19th century rotunda panoramas. These were the biggest paintings in the world, 50 x 400=20,000 square feet, housed in their own rotundas which were 16-sided polygons. Chicago in 1893 had 6 panorama companies and 6 panorama rotundas. Edward John Koch is listed in the 1905,1911,1917 editions of THE BOOK OF CHICAGOANS by A.N.Marquis ("Edward John Koch, manufacturer of rich cut glass...") Mr. Koch appears to have been a protege of William G.Wehner (1847-1928) who was in the high-end glass & porcelain business in Chicago in the 1870s, was a producer of rotunda panoramas in the 1880s, and was an important producer of white wine in the 1890s up to Prohibition (see THE WEHNER MANSION on-line). WHAT IS VERY INTERESTING is that Edward John Koch was an important investor in rotunda panorama. I have secured copies from the Illinois Secretary of State quite a number of corporation papers to rotunda panoramas.Mr. Koch was a trustee for the United States Panorama Company, and purchased a total of 440 shares @ $17,000 in the United States Panorama Company. Also, Mr. Koch was a trustee for the National Panorama Company, and purchased a total of 225 shares @ $22,500 .Much information to share. Maybe somebody "knows the rest of the story."
