Good morning all,
I have discovered the following information regarding my great-grandfather Albert Dean (1885-1942).
Albert Dean, at 16, entered the service of Messrs Edmundsons’ Electricity Corporation. After working for a period at Ramsgate, Kent he moved to Yeovil, Somerset where he became the founder-manager of the Yeovil Electric Light & Power Company in 1920-21. No supply had been made previously in the town.
Albert went on to become the general manager of the Isle of Wight Electric Light & Power Company. In 1930 he was appointed as successor to Col. A E Mayes as general manager of the Isle of Wight undertaking. Under his direction new offices were opened in Newport, Shanklin, Ventor and Cowes. In 1931 the Yarmouth concern was taken over and new offices established at Freshwater. When he took over there were 6000 customers, whereas the figure at the end of last year [1941]had increased by 200 per cent.
Unfortunately he passed away at the age of 56 in 1942.
Does anyone know any more regarding Edmundsons’ Electricity Corporation or Electric Light & Power Company? A slim possibility I know - but just maybe someone does!
Julian
