I am trying to trace my ancestor who was a Customs officer in London. He was born in c 1830 in Caithness (any info regarding that gratefully received), and married Sarah Jane ABBOTT who originally came from Deal, Kent, so I assume he must have been posted there at some point. If anyone has come across this McAdie branch of the family, please contact me. Am happy to swap the info I have for William's decendants.

Please send email to me direct. I have information on a William McAdie, born at Hillend, Caithness in 1830, but doubt connection. There are other sorces of information on the family in Australia - there are four distinct families of the name that I know of.

His daughter Elizabeth Ann McAdie married William Shirley Derbyshire in 1880.They had a son Charles Edward Derbyshire who married Mary Johnson. They had a daughter Florence Derbyshire who married a Frederick Richardson. They had a daughter Audrey Richardson who married a William Ross from Scotland and now she lives in Australia. If this family seems familiar could you let me know. Thankyou, Danielle Ross.

My grandmother's uncle was William George McAdie (b 1867 Mile End) and he married Caroline Emily Burton. His father was George McAdie (b 1805 Wick, Caithness) and he married Sarah Jane Abbott. Where did you get the middle name of George for Sarah's husband please? My grandmother's mother was Alice Jane Abbott (after her mom) McAdie. My grandmother's mother-in-law was Elizabeth Eliza Bennett. Thanks so much! JRigby2356@Rogers.com

Jean,
For the record, although you probably know this, you've mixed up the prior generations in your post.
William George McADIE b 1867 was the son of William McADIE born abt 1830, Wick, father a farmer, called George.
It was William, b. 1830 who married Sarah Jane ABBOTT.
Father George may, or may not, be the George married to Elizabeth ROSIE, one of my lot.
However, there is another William in Ararat yet to be eliminated from inquiries.

Hi Jean, sorry for very long wait for reply. Full time job plus 2 small children = next to no time for genealogy! But, yes this is the right family! I am also descended from William and Caroline and their daughter Maud Caroline. Maud married a Frederick Milton, and their son Peter (b1923, d2003) was my grandfather. If you look at my tree on ancestry I think I've linked most of the docs I have to the records. Did you ever meet your great grandmother? Maud and Frederick both died before I was born so have no family stories of the mcadie's. anything you have gratefully received!
