Hello to those involved. My grandmother was Florence Scott, daughter of William/Mary(nee Wallser). She was one of 6...Mary(Polly) who I gather married Ben Freeman, ? anyone know when?, Elizabeth who went to South Africa and who's family are beautifully described by one of her nephews who visited Durban whilst in the navy in the war years.... I have the letter. Amelia who married a longshoreman/fisherman and went to live in Southwold, Wlliam who I believe was in the navy, next came my grandmother and last Blanche who married Henry Harris of Bonnybridge(Picture Palace) and died in 1926.
I spoke briefly on the phone to Ann Barber this year. Would like to follow up with anyone who knows: 1)Whether James Scott, equestrian, was the father of Walter and William....I understand that there were originally several brothers in that generation. 2)When/where Mary got married to Ben Freeman. 3)Date William ( my gt. grandfather) died 4) Why Elizabeth went to S. Africa. can anyone help?

Hi Tracy How exciting to find one of Blanch's descendants. I have moved on a bit in terms of family tree. I now have Blanch's father and his family and therefore know that William and Walter were brothers, and the names of the other brothers and sisters. It was William(Blanch's father's) eldest sister who married Ben and I have those details now. I have no idea what happened to Blanch's older sister Mary. Would love to know who/if she married and where they went. I know Lily married a Simpson and went to South Africa, but don't know where she met him and if they married in England. Have spoken to her brother William's family and have now a photo of Blanch's father.
Outstanding Questions:Blanch's grandfather/mother were James Edward Scott and Suzanne(nee Peterson), but who were her gt grandparents. I think there was a circus generation before James and Suzanne.
Have you heard of an Evelina Scott?
Why did Blanch's father (my gt grandfather) give up the circus? Why did Flo and Lil(I think) go into service. Did William and Walter ever work together once adult?
Have got a lot further than I thought I would and am hoping to meet an elderly Aunt from William, Blanch's brother's line, but it's full of gaps.
Would love to know the names of Blanch/Henrs children too.
Olease say hello to your aunt for me and tell her that my Mother was Ivy, Flo's daughter.....her cousin.

Thankyou for your update. Am waiting with interest for your next post. I will tidy up the threads on my tree in the next few weeks as there are a few overlaps, but would love to fill some gaps.
You might be interested to know that I found the Walberswick school records recently, and found Florence, Blanche and William on the records.... and a bit about Mary Sarah!

Thay's exciting. Violet must be a cousin! How did you manage that?
Tell me, how do you fit into the picture? Am sure I could suss it out but am lazy. I too have been in touch with the Biddalls, as gt aunt Polly Scott married Ben Freeman.
I have been trying to sort out where my gt grandfather ( Blanch's father, and my grandmother's father) was based when he was running the family circus in East Anglia. Have had some success with the school records at Walberswick, and now know where to find the records for Walpole school where they were before, and hope to do that when I go up to E Anglia in October. Only Florence, William Jnr and Blanch are registered at Walberswick... maybe the older ones were reg at Walpole.Have also made contact with the historian at Walberswick. Perhaps it would be a good idea to communicate by E mali so as to be able to attach info. Let me know what you think and please say hello to Violet Harris from me!

Hello Tracy Did you manage to find out any more from your Aunt Violet, my Mother's cousin. I found the school records for Walberswick School the other day, and the details of my grandmother, brother William and sister Blanch being registered for school there, leaving dates and some refs to the family...'children of a travelling family' Will follow up those for Walpole school where they had been at school first, and where Blanch went back to in October. Would love to have an opportunity to meet your aunt. I wonder if that is a possibility or if she would be horrified at the idea.

Hi Anne, Thank you for getting in touch. I am sure my gran would love a visit from you. I am popping in tomorrow so I will speak to her and let you know. She doesn't seem to know much about her mothers side, more from her fathers but she would love a chance to chat about her. My gran will be 92 at the begining of October so she has stories from the past to tell. You can get in touch through my email which is maddison_uk@hotmail.comRegards Tracy

Hello Anne
I originally came from Bonnybridge and migrated to Sydney in the sixties.
Violet was my best mate's mum. She lived in Bonnybridge and was the manager of Henry harris's Picture House.
just back from Scotland and visited violet as i occasionally do.
My grannie was a Bastable and her nephew Fred Bastable married Violet, who was from the Biddall side
I do a lot of our showfolk history, but never having been one i tend to be looking in rather than being a part of them. We have always been very close over the years and I suppose as we all get older we try to capture the past.
Violet Alexander ms Harris is 91 this year, bright as a button and has helped me write some of her family as well as my research in the Scottish Reigistry office where i spend a fair bit of time when over there. I did a fair bit this year again. However it usually takes me a good 5-8 months to collate all of my research. Then back again, all going weel and do some more.
Cheers and thanks for your post [which was of interest to Violet]
Let me know if i can help
George
