Am trying to locate information on my Great-Grandfather Frank Bartlow. We know he was employed by Ringling Bros. in 1890 and 1891. He was the Superintendent of the Menagerie. Circus route seemed to be in the Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota area. Story is that he was killed by circus animal, probably in 1906 or later, but we don't know date or place. Any information or hints as to where to look would be appreciated. E-mail me at fillb@aol.com. Thank you.

I have a book "Olympians of the Sawdust Circle" by William L. Slout. on page 21 I found Bartlow, Charles. Elephant keeper, Yankee Robinson's for 5 years before he was killed in a battle with the elephant "Big Tom," April 9th, 1909. The bull stood 9'2" high and weighed 7,200 pounds. Bartlow was the 6th victim in the animal's 19 years in captivity. in another book I find that Yankee Robinson Circus was owned by Fred Buchanan from 1905-1920. Check with Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Wis. they have lots of info and are very helpfull.

Hi! Try the Circus World Museum in Wisconsin. They have a tremendous amount of information in there library. I am sure you would find what you are looking for there. They will do research for you, and they have a website. They have info on circuses that goes back to the 1700s.

Hi! Does your book mention Everett, Tom, or Billy Hart who were acrobats or clowns with Ringling Bros. from about 1920 to 1940? If so, does it have any pictures of them. They were my grandfather's brothers. Thanks, Anne Hart Cavazos

Dear Colette

I wondered if your book had an entry for my grandfather Frank Anderson. A UK clown act. He probably worked as Anderson Bros with mules? or Handy Andy? I have contacted CWM Baraboo and they are about to send me some info.

many thanks
