Merchant Navy seamen

I have found a passenger list from the Kinfauns Castle arriving Southampton 20th November 1925. The passenger list shows what appears to be the names of crew members from two other ships - the SS Ballarat and the SS Sophocles. I am not able to find any reasons why these crew members were not on their own vessels - does anyone know if it was normal for crew members to be ferried back to England on a vessel other than their own? Any help appreciated.
Cheers.

Hi 64917082,

There was seamen's strike in Cape Town at this time. Several ships were held up in South Africa. This may explain why crew men from other ships were carried back to the UK on board the Kinfauns Castle.

If you have access to a newspaper archive, you should be able to get more information.
