POLAND – Edgar L. Guterba, 83, passed away peacefully, early Sunday morning, July 5,2015 at the Assumption Village and Marion Living Center in North Lima, Ohio, following a brief illness.

Mr. Guterba was born on July 21, 1931, at home in Poland, Ohio (Mahoning County) a son of Lloyd and Hannah (Basler) Guterba.

A 1950 graduate of Springfield Local High School, he married the former Florence Marttala on Aug. 29, 1953.

Edgar was a proud member of the U.S. Army and the 82nd Airborne division from 1955 to 1957, and later served in the Army Reserves.

Edgar was a lifelong member of the Mount Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima.
He served in many capacities there.
A dedicated farmer, he served on the Agland board, was a member of the farm bureau, and oversaw “Old McDonald’s Barn” at the Canfield, Ohio Fair for many years.

Mr. Guterba, as he was affectionately known by all of the children, drove bus for South Range Local Schools for 38 years.
He also delivered bulk copies of The Vindicator to vendors in Pennsylvania for many, many years. Edgar enjoyed tending to his own farm, especially the cows, and mowing his lawn, as he loved to beautify the land and had great pride for his family homestead.
But most of all, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandson, and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of a new great-granddaughter soon.

Edgar leaves to cherish his precious memory, his daughter, Cheryl Andrella and her husband, Brad, of Newton Falls, Ohio; daughter-in-law Deborah Guterba of Poland; three grandchildren, Megan (J.J.) Thornton of Poland, Jared (Jessica) Bilas of North Bloomfield, and Kyle Guterba of Poland, OH; great-grandson Xander; and sisters Helen Oliver of Poland and Mildred (Donald) Stratton of Poland.

Mr. Guterba was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence, who passed away April 6, 2001; and his son, Gerald, who passed away May 5, 2015.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at Mount Olivet U.C.C., 410 W. South Range Road, North Lima, with Pastor David Howell and Pastor Jerry Cruze officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mount Olivet U.C.C., and also one hour prior to the service, at 10 a.m., Saturday morning.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Edgar’s memory to the Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512, or Mount Olivet U.C.C. Building Fund, 410 W. South Range Road, North Lima, OH 44452.

The family has entrusted the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with the arrangements for their loved one.
