YOUNGSTOWN - Neil DellArco, 99, who passed away peacefully Friday morning, June 26, 2015.

He was born April 21, 1916, in Colver, Pa., the son of Mattia and Emperiale (Trella) DellArco.

Neil graduated from The Rayen School, Youngstown, Ohio and attended Youngstown College, under the GI Bill, earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, and completed his Master’s Degree in Education at Westminster College.
He also attended Akron and Kent State Universities for post-graduate courses, working on his Doctorate in School Administration.
Neil received a Fullbright Scholarship for a summer at the University of Tehran, Iran, and also a summer at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Neil spent his entire teaching career in the Niles City School District.
He retired in 1982, but continued to do Home Bound instruction for another 10 years in both Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.
Neil maintained a strong belief in education, citing it as one of the contributing factors to his family’s success.

Neil was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, where he was a Eucharistic minister, lector, past member of parish council, He also volunteered regularly at the St. Vincent De Paul Soup Kitchen.

Neil enjoyed writing for the Senior News for many years. He researched military history and authored articles titled “Lest We Forget”. This was a tribute to honor the men and women who served in the armed forces and their country.

Neil served his country for 18 years with military service.
His career began with the local unit of the Ohio National Guard, 145th infantry, and he was sergeant with the Tank Driving School at Fort Chaffee, Ark.
He served for 33 months in active duty during World War II as a sergeant with the Airborne School, Fort Benning, Ga., where he earned both the Parachute and Glider Wings with 23 jumps and 20 glider landings.
Neil was awarded the following decorations for his service to our country: the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theater Service Medal.

Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he volunteered for service in the local Signal Corps and served as a first sergeant with the 348th Engineer Company.
Neil continued to be involved and was two time post commander of the Charles Marino Post No. 3, Youngstown, Ohio and state commander, national junior vice commander of the Italian American War Veterans.

He leaves his beloved wife of over 43 years, the former Mary Simone, whom he married on June 15, 1972; two daughters, Dolores (Victor) Angel of Cincinnati, OH and Diane Kirk of Pittsburgh; three grandsons, John E. Kirk IV of Pittsburgh, Matthew (Amanda) Angel and Mark (Amy) Angel, both of Cincinnati; and six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Alexis, Taylor, Kaitlin, Andrew and Dylan.

Besides his parents, Neil was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Thomas, Ray, Lewis, Fred, William “Lefty” and Samuel DellArco; two sisters, Nancy Perrotta and Theresa Gragg; and his stepsiblings, Ben and Antonette.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, June 28, 2015, from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, Ohio.

Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, Ohio with the U.S. Army will provide military honors for Neil.

BOARDMAN – John P. Dell’Arco, 94, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, Jan. 3, 2013, at Hospice of the Valley’s Hospice House. John was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Colver, Pa., the son of Martin and Emperial Dell’Arco.
His wife, Linda, whom he married July 30, 1938, passed away May 3, 1995.
He will always be loved and remembered by his three daughters, Linda Maybury of Port Charlotte, Fla., Nancy (David) Slivka of Russell, Ohio, and Cristina (Jack) Raver of Boardman; four grandchildren, John Degli, Alexia Pozar, Linda Jean Degli, and Angel (David) Richmond; four great-grandchildren, Michael and Anthony Nicholson, Adam Hawkins, and Andrew Richmond; a brother, Neal (Mary) Dell’Arco; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and other friends. John worked over 20 years as a construction superintendent with the DeBartolo Corp., before moving to California in 1977.
While in California he was employed by the Lyle Parks Construction Co. as a project manager, before retiring in 1989 and moving back to Ohio.
John was a talented craftsman and wood carver. Everyone knew him by his cigars, great cooking, sense of humor, and love of singing.
He honorably and faithfully served his country during World War II with the U.S. Infantry in the European Theater. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Thomas, Ray, Lewis, Fred, Theresa, Nancy, William “Lefty,” and Samuel; and step siblings Ben and Antonette.
There will be a 1:30 p.m. memorial Mass on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Youngstown, Ohio where friends may call from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. The Rossi Brothers & Lellio
