YOUNGSTOWN - Joseph W. Kashmar, 86, passed away Sunday morning, May 13, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio.

Mr. Kashmar was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Meadow Lands, Pa., (Washington County) the son of the late John and Mary Pitko Kashmar, and was the last survivor of the family he grew up with.

He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees on numerous islands in the South Pacific during World War II, and was employed by the City of Youngstown, OH for 41 years, retiring in 1987.

Joe was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown, where he was active making signs, drawings, and pictures, and designing Ukrainian Easter eggs for a number of years.

Mr. Kashmar was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins, and of the Pitt Panthers football team. He enjoyed listening to music of the 1920’s and 1930’s, and big band music, especially Guy Lombardo.
Like a master craftsman, Joe took great pride in completing various projects around his house.

Joe’s wife of over 58 years, Mary Vostitsianos Kashmar, whom he married on June 6, 1948, passed away Oct. 11, 2006.

He is survived by a son, Dr. Richard J. Kashmar and daughter-in-law, Kathleen of Dover, Delaware and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his wife, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Helen Renko, and brothers, John, George, and Edward Kashmar.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, May 18, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a prayer service will take place at 5:30 p.m.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Committal services will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
