Calvary Morris Young


Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company L, 3rd Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Osage, Kansas on October 25, 1864. His Citation reads “Gallantry in capturing Gen. William L. Cabell”. His Medal was awarded to him on April 4, 1865.

He was born in Athens County, Ohio in 1840 and enlisted at Bloomfield, IOWA as a sergeant in the 3rd Iowa Calvary.
His last known address was in Ludlow, KY.

Was my Great grandfather, Not sure why they moved but would like to communicate if you are related.

No, i Can't find it anywhere. I used to have the medal until my grandmother asked me to give it to my uncle Tom Young who died a few years ago. My aunt rosemary may still have it but I dont know if she still lives. My brother has the revolver engraved with CM Young Co. L 3rd Iowa Cav on it Calvary was my Maternal Great Grandfather.

Was my Maternal Great Grandfather, I used to have the medal, my brother has his engraved revolver. I believe he also founded the Ludlow Volenteer Fire Dept. where I am told they still have his helmet. My uncle Tom Young was Chief and a WWII vet. My cousin has the original citation but I have not been in communication with him for years.
