William Gerald “Jerry” McLeod, Sr. - age 73 - of Nauvoo,IL passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 7:15 A.M. at Memorial Hospital in Carthage IL. He was born on October 10, 1933 in Greenbush, Michigan, a son of Earl George and Agnes Arabelle McCormick McLeod. He married Betti Jo Powell on August 5, 1958 in Rome, New York and was sealed to Betti on August 14, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. She survives in Nauvoo. Other survivors include his children: Donna (and Jeff) Edmonds of Chatham, IL, William McLeod, Jr of Hamilton, IL, Sohn (and Peggy) McLeod of Lindon, UT, Colin (and Tracy) McLeod of West Jordon, UT, Revette (and James) Rogers of Lincoln, IL, April (and Jay) Gunnell of Pleasant Grove, UT, Tuesday McLeod of Peoria, IL and Yancee (and Gary) Bell of Nauvoo, IL; Grandchildren: Jeff & Emily Edmonds; Samantha (and Josh) Stark; Adam Washburn , Matt McKay and Megan McLeod; Spencer & Michael McLeod; A.J, Connor and Madison McLeod; Allison (and Josh) Reible; Kyle, Timothy, Thaddeus and Luke Rogers; Braxton, Alexa, Adian, Annika and Kenyon Gunnell; Gage Gray, Donald and Hailey Bell; 2 great grandchildren: Haylei McLeod and Wesley Stark; 2 brothers: Paul McLeod of Alabama and Donald (and Nancy) McLeod of Kentucky and 2 sisters: Sandy Curtis and Sharon Phillips, both of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings (Mickey, Virgil, Bruce, Jack and Robert McLeod and Shirley McLeod Edwards) and 1 granddaughter (Bobbi Jo McLeod). William is retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served as a Gunnery Sergeant. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nauvoo. William enjoyed talking and telling stories and working as a lapidary. He also loved to dance and had taught ballroom dance in Keokuk, IA. Jerry was proud of his Scottish Heritage. Services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2007 at10:30 A.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop David Wright officiating. Burial in Nauvoo City Cemetery in Nauvoo. Full Military Honors will be held at the graveside. Visitation will be held Friday, June 29, 2007 after 3:00 P.M. with the family meeting friends between 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home of Nauvoo. Friends may also call on Saturday, between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Memorials in memory of William Gerald McLeod, Sr. have been established for Hancock County Diabetes Association
