Reynaldo ‘Rey’ M. Sanchez

Reynaldo “Rey” M. Sanchez, 86, died Dec. 17, 2004, in Cañon City.

He was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Corazon, N.M., to Primativo and Sophia (Gonsalez) Sanchez.

Mr. Sanchez worked for Fort Lyon Hospital in Las Animas for 27 years.

He married Nancy M. Olona, March 9, 1970, and moved to Cañon City in 1990. He was an Appaloosa horse breeder and trainer. He had been a lifeguard and Boy Scout leader.

Mr. Sanchez was a lifetime member of the VFW. He served in the Navy during WWII on the SS Roi. Mr. Sanchez was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his sons, Rey, Richard, Lawrance, Anthony, Steven, David; daughters, Loretta, Gloria, Anita, Mary, Doris Ann; stepson, Robert; brother, Andrew; and sisters, Angie and Amelia.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Pete; a sister, Irene; and his parents.

Visitation from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a Vigil service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at the Wilson Memorial Chapel, 1449 S. Ninth St., Cañon City. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father James King officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Wilson Funeral Home.
