Need 3 Corns' Family Obits to solve Mystery

Hi, I'm Sharon and reside in Maine. In the past few months, I'v posted on other boards requesting help in obtaining 3 obituaries. So far, no luck! :(

I'm in need of 3 obituaries. I would be very thankful if you could help me in this quest.

Joseph Cleveland Corns: born 9 May 1910, in Nipgen, Ohio and died 12 Aug 1964, Springfield, Ohio

Ruth Taylor Corns: born 7 Feb 1922, in Ohio and died 10 Dec 1972, Springfield, Ohio (Joseph's wife)

Michael Allen Corns: born 24 Feb 1958, Clark County, Ohio and died 29 Sep 1973, Dunlow, Wayne Co, West Virginia (Their son)

At the time of his death, Michael was a Springfield resident and an obituary was printed either in Greenfield or Springfield papers. I'm trying to find out what killed him, why he died in WV and who my 15 year old cousin was living with at the time of his death. There is no information on his death certificate that answers any of the questions.

Thank you.

The date of death I have for Luther is February 1, 1955, and the date of death for Minerva is July 10, 1943. I do believe they lived in Sebring, Mahoning, OH since that is the same area as the cemetary where they were buried.

Do you have death dates? (months, days...) Obituaries are usually published within a week of the death.

Also, do you have towns/cities where they died? (There are about 20 newspapers in Mahoning county around those times.)

Warren Tribune Chronicle-Trumbull County

If you are looking for obituaries of relatives with connections to Trumbull County, it is possible that they can be found in the Warren Tribune Chronicle. The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library has the obituaries indexed starting at 1900 and working to the present day. They also have a lot of incomplete indexes for the older newspapers. Their website is www.wtcpl.org - then look for the green Local History & Genealogy page on the right of the home page. They have an email service and are able to send scans of microfilmed obituaries to you.

Our library also used to have remote access to Access Newspaper Archives, however, in the past year or so, I've heard they no longer have remote access. You need to go to a library or facility that actually has the database and use it there. Bummer...

Have you tried to access newspapers through Google?

The Akron Beacon Journal is the most likely newspaper for these obits. Computerized and/or online databases for it only go back to 1984. For earlier papers, you're going to have to contact libraries and/or find microfilm.

Here are several resources:

http://www.akronlibrary.org/internetresources/sc/genealogy.h...

The Akron Library will conduct genealogical research. See http://akronlibrary.org/internetresources/sc/correspondence....

Also see their lists of websites:
http://www.akronlibrary.org/internetresources/sc/irgenealogy...

To find all libraries that have Summit County newspapers, use worldcat.org. Type in su:Summit County (Ohio) Newspapers

Contact the resulting libraries re: whether they offer research, whether local genealogy societies offer research, or whether you can borrow microfilm through InterLibrary Loan.

You could also contact the Summit County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society to post your query, ask for a lookup, or to hire a researcher:
http://spot.acorn.net/gen/

Finally (AND MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY THIS FIRST?) you could contact "Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness" (folks volunteer to do research in specific areas) See:
http://www.raogk.org/ohio5.htm

One of these approaches will surely get results! Good luck! :)
