Hi Emma
From your email addy I can see you are in the UK.
Your local county library will have something called 'Online Reference Library' on its homepage. You need to use the number on the back of your library card to get into it. You can use this from home.
There you can access the Gale 19C newspapers (local press) and the Times archive for free. There are search pages
If you haven't got a library card, or your library doesn't have the online from home stuff I do know that some county libraries will allow remote users (i.e out of county)
The searching can be a little erratic, but you can search on dates (or between/after/before) and you can put in names like MARSFEN. You will get a list of articles, then you just click and it shows you the relevant bit - you can also see the whole page or even browse a newspaper.
On the 19C pages you can specify area of country or publication but it's amazing what is said out of area when it is a sensational happening!
