Locate which newspapers serviced an area in early 1900s

I need to find an obit for someone who died 17 June 1916 at Killyleagh, Down, Northern Ireland. I know there must be a simple way to find which papers to go to .....

I have the death certificate for James M. Hamilton (b. 1851) but after all my years of researching I cannot move back much farther than the date of death. I do know his parents were George and Sarah Morrison Hamilton and hope an obit could fill in some blanks.

Help appreciated,

Have you tried, "The Down Recorder" ?
production@thedownrecorder.co.uk.
The Linen Hall Library in Belfast has early newspapers going back a long way. Possibly the obituary was also published in the "Belfast Newsletter" of 1916.

Hi,

You could try Googling the following resources:
The Down Recorder Newspaper established 1836 which services Downpatrick, Killyleagh and other areas.
The Belfast Newsletter Newspaper Ireland's oldest newspapermay have listings as well as a lot of as a lot of wills were proved at Belfast.
Also try Ros Davies County Down research site
Raymond's County Down research site
Wills Index at Public Records Office Northern Ireland PRONI. Here you can print the abstract of the will which often lists Executors of the estate, usually other family members Sons Daughters Wives etc.

Regarding the Morrison Family: Originally located in the Parish of Inch and believed to be of England along with the Jennings Family.

The Hamilton Family along with the Maxwell Family is believed to come from Scotland during the Ulster Plantation.

As the families in those days 1800- 1900 had many siblings there are many offspring that immigrated to the USA,Canada and Australia.

I hope this information helps.

Brent
