I am looking for obits published in Manitoba Canada newspapers back to the 1800's if possible.
I went to Winnipeg Free Press and they have an archives
but it is a paid site. I have called them numerous times and can't talk to anyone?? Leave a message and no return call sent an email no reply? Does anyone use this site and if you find an obit you would like to print a copy of do you have to pay for it? I see they have a shopping cart ?? Death notices usally say next of kin and burial cemetery info. Hate to give them my credit card and then it is no good or can't contact them to cancel it either lol Genealogy bank looks like it is only United States papers.
Thankyou

Try this site.

Play around with this site - it allows some free searches and browsing.

MikeMelen1961 has a subscription to Newspaper Archives and has kindly offered to do look-ups.

Thankyou for the reply I have been in all the above sites - newspaper archives will not let me browse ( think they know I am tempted to join lol) I am working on quite few cemetery unmarked graves so I would be constantly bothering Mike :) but the offer is great. Think I will just try a month's trial subscription and see how it goes.
Thanks

A subscription with Newspaper Archives is NOT worth it.

They have very few newspapers. (For instance, I was looking for articles that would have appeared in papers around the Washington DC area in 1964, and the only Washington Post papers they had went up to 1924. The Maryland papers available were for small towns in remote parts of the state... it was a total waste of $29.99).

I did subscribe to the what I thought was newspaper archives ?? But all I can access is the Winnipeg Free Press archives from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Which as all I use it for it obituaries it has been useful for that. I have found quite a few old obituaries for Manitoba. I look up to try and find unmarked graves in our rural cemeteries.

Here's your best newspaper site and it's free. No search engine, you have to go through the issues, but lots of Canadian newspaper, US, British, etc. I use it all the time.
