I am certainly no expert in these matters, but Sardis was the name of a city in Western Asia and was one of the seven cities to whom messages were addressed in the Biblical Book of Revelations. The ancient city was situated at a crossroads that made it prominent in trade. It is credited by some as being the first to mint coins. Many Christian families gave names to their children which came out of the Bible.
