My mom and I have been trying to trace back part of our family tree without much luck. We get stuck at Alexander Washburn. We know that he was born in 1810 in either Michigan or Canada and died in 1899 in Michigan, and he married Christina Seiler in 1847, probably in Ohio. My grandma just recently told us that the Washburns were French, and that Washburn was not their original last name. She says it was changed at some point and that the original name was pronounced pawpaw, but she has no idea how to spell it. Does anyone have any idea how this name may have been spelled so we can start looking?
